Ballard Power Systems Inc is sub-licensing intellectual property to M-Field Energy Corp for materials handling systems to be deployed in Europe.

Ballard will provide M-Field with engineering services support into early-2015 through Dantherm Power A/S, the Ballard subsidiary in Hobro, Denmark, to assist in optimising system integration activities utilising Ballard fuel cell stacks. The agreement has a value to Ballard of approximately CAD1 million (USD940,000).

"This deal furthers our three-level business model by leveraging engineering services and applicable IP in order to support the penetration of fuel cell products in a variety of geographic markets," says Steve Karaffa, chief commercial officer of Burnaby-based Ballard.

Previously, Ballard acquired the materials handling intellectual property portfolio of H2 Logic A/S of Herning, Denmark, a manufacturer of hydrogen refueling stations and fuel cell systems for applications such as forklifts and tow tractors. H2 Logic has made a strategic decision to narrow its business focus to hydrogen refueling stations.

Ballard is sub-licensing the portfolio of intellectual property to M-Field under a definitive agreement announced on 29 June.

Ballard will be the exclusive supplier of fuel cell stacks including the FCgen-1020ACS air-cooled and FCvelocity-9SSL liquid-cooled stack products for all materials handling systems that M-Field deploys in Europe. M-Field characterises itself as a sustainable energy company.

Ballard has production facilities in Burnaby and Tijuana, Mexico.

Words of support …

These releases in Forkliftaction are a nice experience for SNDC... We got seven inquiries coming from Canada, USA, Mexico, Israel and Australia (five from retailers, two from machines manufacturers) and we are still in contact with them. I can state that's a success story!
