Kmart, a leading Australian retailer, has chosen Isoloader's 3-high Transporter High-performance Straddle Carrier to handle containers in their chain of new distribution centres. Containers can now be delivered direct from the ship, avoiding intermediaries and keeping Kmart in control, with significant savings on both handling and demurrage costs.Isoloader is a manufacturer of straddle carriers and rubber tyred gantries providing container and heavy load handling solutions for operations handling from 100 to 100,000 loads per year. The Transporter series is a dependable high capacity straddle carrier designed for intermodal terminals, logistics centres and warehousing. It is available in 1-high, 2-high and 3-high models with a travel speed of 20km/h.

6 wheels on the larger straddles keep wheel loadings under 11 tonnes. |
Reducing the operation's Total CostUsing a single straddle carrier to handle over a hundred containers per day (nearly 400 lifts) at each distribution centre, Kmart required a container handling solution that maximize the throughput of their facilities, whilst providing safety, reliability and a low total cost per load handled. Truck loading, container storage and order picking were all essential requirements.
Isoloader's Transporter is a high-performance straddle offering great visibility. Fitted with 4-wheel steering, the bi-directional straddles travel equally well in forward and reverse, allowing the operator to maneuver safely and quickly in the tight confines of the site. Stacking containers 3-high maximizes the capacity of the limited storage area whilst ensuring fast access times for order picking.
Being green field sites, Kmart was keen to reduce both civil and land costs as well as operating costs. At 2/3rds the weight of a forklift, not only are fuel costs less by up to half, but the
Transporter's low wheel loadings of only 11 tonnes allowed Kmart to reduce the construction costs for their pavements. The steering geometry of the Transporter practically eliminates tyre scuffing, meaning that tyres last 3 times longer than on a forklift with less damage to pavements.

Small terminals requiring order picking and stackingThe
Transporter straddle carrier up to 3-high is designed specifically for small to mid-sized terminals. First produced in 1978, the new 4th generation Transporter continues
Isoloader's quest to build the lightest, strongest and most reliable 3-high container handler to meet the needs of the small terminal market:
Low fuel and pavement costs - not requiring expensive concrete pavements and able to operate on hardstand with a fuel consumption as low as half that of its competitors.
Reliability and low maintenance costs - designed for operations requiring high availability with a single machine, together with simple servicing.
Comfort and visibility - ergonomics for continuous use in terminals requiring stacking, truck loading and order picking.
Controlling for cleanliness by placing containers end on to the warehouse doors. |
