Atlantic Machinery & Equipment Inc is the second North American dealer to distribute Sany reach stackers and empty container handlers for port, rail and intermodal cargo uses.

Richmond, Virginia-based Atlantic Machinery distributes for Sany in its core market.

From May, Binder Machinery Co, of South Plainfield, New Jersey, became the first North American dealer for Sany America Inc's equipment in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware and eastern Pennsylvania.

The Sany reach stacker has a maximum lifting capacity of 99,208 lb. (45,000 kg) and a maximum lift height of 49.6 ft. (15.1 m). The telescopic dual-beam top spreader features four hydraulically activated twist locks for quick container securing and release.

The Sany line of empty container handlers can lift 19,850 lb. (9,003 kg) with a range of maximum height from 51.2 ft. (16.2 m) to 70.25 ft. (21.4 m). A load-sensing hydraulic system automatically detects load weight and delivers the required power. The handlers use Cummins diesel engines and Kessler drive axles.

Kyle Nape, vice president of global sales and marketing at Sany America, in Peachtree City, says: "Sany port machines are in use at some of the busiest ports and intermodal yards in the world. We're bringing that substantial product experience into North America for the first time. We're starting with two important products but plan to expand our offerings in the near future to serve an even bigger part of the cargo transportation market."

In China, publicly traded Changsha-based Sany Heavy Industry Co's port machinery division broke ground in April for a USD1.6 billion manufacturing and research centre for port equipment, marine engineering and shipbuilding machinery in Zhuhai, west of Hong Kong. Sany anticipates completing the facility and relocating the division from its existing quarters in Changsha by 2015.

In addition to reachstackers and empty container handlers, the division manufactures ship-to-shore cranes, rail-mounted gantry cranes and rubber-tyred gantry cranes.

Sany America's operations, assembly and research and development centre are in Peachtree City.
