Burglars stole a forklift from the grounds of the Leroy F Greene Middle School on 16 July and used it to smash in the front wall of the Midamar Jewelers retail store, stealing a safe and setting off alarms.

The distance between school and the store in Sacramento is about 0.4 mi. (0.6 km).

Daniel Pheasant and his wife, Cindy, are longtime operators of the business and plan to rebuild the store, which was boarded up after the incursion.

Sacramento police were investigating the incident but did not have an estimate of the loss of property.
