Conventional "governors" will not work in a forklift application because they simply restrict engine RPM to a certain setpoint level. In most cases this engine RPM setpoint is too low to provide the forklift adequate engine power for heavy lifting required at low speed. Failure to tie engine RPM with vehicle speed makes a conventional governor ineffective in lift truck applications. SPEED SAVER devices by
KEYTROLLER sense vehicle speed and restrict top speed of a forklift without effecting full engine RPM at low speed or stop
Available in two styles:- SPEED-SAVER SS-701
CONVENTIONAL CABLE TYPE ACCELERATOR PEDALS: This kit includes: Controller, electronic "arm" actuator, gear tooth speed sensor, cable and mounting hardware. When the vehicle exceeds "idle" speed (speed vehicle travels at idle RPM---usually about 2 MPH), the electronic "arm" actuates and pulls back on the cable. This cable is attached to the engine throttle opposite of the accelerator cable connection. When actuated, the throttle stroke is restricted to whatever engine RPM the installer has set it to, thereby restricting speed to that engine RPM setpoint. When the operator reduces speed below the idle setpoint (about 2 MPH) then the actuator arm relaxes no longer restriction the throttle stroke and the driver again has full engine RPM without restriction whatsoever. - SPEED-SAVER SSEL-701
NEW STYLE ELECTRONIC ACCELERATOR PEDALS: This kit includes: Controller, gear tooth speed sensor, cable harness with Deutsch connectors, electronic calibrator. Designed for "fly by wire" electronic accelerators. Device splices in line between the accelerator and the vehicles VCU (vehicle control unit). Maximum RPM (maximum mv the electronic throttle will see) is set by using a Windows PC and the supplied calibrator connected to through the PC's Hyper Terminal. In addition to controlling maximum top speed, the device can also be set up to control the "slew rate" or rate of acceleration of the vehicle (speed vs time). This can be attractive for applications that are handling fragile loads or for the prevention of "burn out" type abuse.
Many newer forklifts already include a gear tooth speed sensor that can be spliced into to receive speed pulse data, so either
SPEED SAVER kit can be ordered without this component.
Either device is designed to fit to almost any make or model forklift powered by gasoline, LPG or diesel.
