Toyota Material Handling Europe (TMHE)'s largest factory, which produces over 100,000 trucks annually, has been certified a safe and healthy work environment.
The 76,000 sqm (818, 057 sqft.) BT Products AB and TMHE Parts Operation in Mjölby, Sweden, which employs about 1,450 people, received the OHSAS 18001 Certificate last month. The OHSAS 18001 is an Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems. It helps organisations control occupational health and safety risks.
"We prioritise and take responsibility for ensuring that our employees work in a safe and healthy environment. Providing a safe and healthy workplace has always been part of the Toyota philosophy," says Anders Claesson, president of BT Products AB.
Claesson gives credit to the project group that managed the "complex" task to meet the OHSAS 18001 requirements in a relatively short time.
The Swedish plant produces 55,000 powered trucks and 70,000 hand pallet trucks annually and its central warehouse contains over 40,000 spare parts for delivery worldwide.
