Jungheinrich will invest EUR40 million (USD53 million) to expand its production capacity with the construction of a new warehousing and system equipment plant near its existing manufacturing site in Moosburg.

The German manufacturer wants to be ready for growth in the next few years and has scheduled construction of the plant in the Degernpoint commercial and industrial area to start at the end of April.

"By building this new plant, we are making another important investment in the future of our company, which will enable us to generate sustainable growth," says Hans-Georg Frey, chairman of the board of management of Jungheinrich AG.

In 2008, the company acquired a 60,000 sqm (645,835 sqft.) property in the Degernpoint industrial area to implement its expansion plans. The trucks that will be manufactured in Degernpoint are currently produced at the main plant in Moosburg, the manufacturing capacity of which has reached its limit.

About 960 employees currently working at the Moosburg site - 260 of whom are assigned to the warehousing and system truck division - will move to the new Degernpoint site, which is just under 3 km (1.9 mi.) away.

Commissioning of the new plant has been scheduled for the second half of 2013. Jungheinrich counterbalance trucks will continue to be manufactured at the main Moosburg plant where production processes will be optimised in a second step and manufacturing capacity for counterbalance trucks will be expanded.
