Plant Hire UK (PHUK)'s latest investment in 200 new JCB T4i telescopic handlers has pushed its total of JCB machine purchases past the 1,500 mark.
PHUK managing director Graham Jones says that in the space of nine years, the relatively young company has achieved a tremendous growth rate. The company bought its first JCB Loadall telehandler when it started out in 2005. The latest fleet deal is worth GBP11 million (USD18.7 million).
"One of the keys to our success is having a young and modern fleet and all of our JCB Loadalls are under two years old," Jones explains. "Our telehandler fleet is also exclusively JCB: that's a conscious decision we've made, driven by our customers who demand the JCB Loadall product."
He says that JCB telehandlers are the UK market leader, providing "fantastic visibility and lifting ability". He also praises the 24-hour parts and service back-up from dealer Gunn JCB.
The deal is for Loadalls ranging from the four-metre, 520-40 model through to the 20 metre lift height, 540-200 model.
Supplied through JCB dealer Gunn JCB, the Loadalls are powered by JCB's Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB Ecomax diesel engine, which meets the latest emissions standards without the requirement for a diesel particulate filter.
"The advantages of not having a diesel particulate filter are immense for any business like ours because it reduces running costs substantially when you run a fleet of large machines. It's also great for operators, because without the need for a DPF, a low engine cover line has been maintained which gives excellent visibility," Jones says.
PHUK was started by Graham Jones and finance director Wayne Illidge. Its latest fleet of machines will be delivered throughout 2014. PHUK is also investing heavily in its facilities, building brand new offices in Haydock as well looking for opportunities to expand with a new depot in Birmingham, which would create new jobs for skilled fitters, apprentices and drivers.
