Logistics specialist DHL has completed the $4.5 million refurbishment of its facility at Port Melbourne.

The facility encompasses 605 sqm as well as a warehouse footprint of 4,645 sqm, housing over 90 staff.

The refurbishment ensures the new facility can manage all pick-up and delivery services, as well as shipment processing for export and reweight.

In addition to new facilities at Port Melbourne, DHL has also improved logistics at Melbourne Airport with the introduction of a superior materials handling system and high-speed reweigh technology.

"With significant volume growth over the last two years and the continued surge in overseas online shopping, it has been necessary to develop this new facility which will accommodate up to 50 DHL delivery vans. Along with the twice-weekly dedicated inbound 747 freighters from the USA, we are well positioned for future growth in the international express market," says Gary Edstein, senior VP Oceania, DHL Express.

"Melbourne is home to some key industries, such as engineering, manufacturing and apparel, with large DHL global customers including Pacific Brands, Quiksilver, Sealite, Nissan and Black Magic Design," says Edstein.
