Two Liebherr LHM 800 mobile harbour cranes headed for Uruguay |
Liebherr Maritime Cranes has delivered the first two Liebherr LHM 800 mobile harbour cranes in container configuration to Montecon in Uruguay.
In 2015, Montecon ordered the first giant mobile harbour crane, type LHM 800, for container operation. Due to the increasing demand for mobile container handling solutions, it subsequently ordered a second unit. Both machines recently started their nearly 13,000 km journey from Rostock, Germany to Montevideo, Uruguay.
"The two LHM 800s in container configuration are a future-oriented addition to the existing cargo-handling fleet of Montecon. Thanks to the existing fleet of Liebherr mobile harbour cranes and the two new LHM 800s, Montevideo represents a highly attractive port of call for shipping lines," says Leopold Berthold, managing director of Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH.
Liebherr Maritime Cranes has a long-term partnership with Montevideo-based terminal operator Montecon, dating back 15 years to the first purchase of a panamax Liebherr mobile harbour crane, type LHM 400, which was delivered in 2001.
Over the past few years, Montecon has made a number of significant investments to further enhance its operational performance.
Ports around the world have to handle bigger vessels and need to amend their equipment and infrastructure to maintain competitiveness and Montecon's mobile harbour crane fleet reflects the growth of vessel sizes.
In 2012 and 2013, Montecon again invested heavily in Liebherr mobile harbour cranes and ordered three LHM 600s, the largest model at that time.
The recently delivered machines are the eighth and ninth Liebherr mobile harbour cranes ordered by Montecon.
