The giant LHM 800 on the specialised RoRo vessel |
Liebherr Maritime Cranes has delivered the first flagship mobile harbour crane LHM 800 in heavy lift configuration to multipurpose sea cargo complex Bronka.
Located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, Port Bronka is about to become an important multipurpose terminal on the Baltic Sea. In order to easily handle growing vessel sizes and heavy industrial goods, Port Bronka ordered the giant LHM 800 which was shipped fully assembled to the customer and is ready for operation.
Designed for handling of oversized and heavy-lift cargo, the first LHM 800 is equipped with a special reinforced 64 m boom with a total weight of 63 T. Two winches and a four-rope configuration provide a maximum lifting capacity of 308 T. This exceeds the maximum capacity of the previous top mobile harbour crane, the LHM 600, by 100 T.
The crane's total weight of 820 T is evenly spread on the ground between four double supporting pads with a total area of more than 100 sqm. In driving mode, 36 axle sets with 144 wheels provide mobility.
In addition to single lifts, the new LHM 800 is also designed for tandem lifts. With Liebherr's Sycratronic tandem operation tool activated, one crane driver can simultaneously operate both cranes for improved speed, capacity and safety. In tandem operation with a second LHM 800, the maximum lifting capacity rises to 616 T.
After eight months of production, the LHM 800 was shipped fully assembled by the open-deck vessel MV Papenburg. To ensure roll-on roll-off, the specialised vessel needed to get an elaborate steel and wood enlargement to a total width of 18 m. With the help of a specifically designed ramp, it took the giant crane an hour to drive onto the open-deck vessel for its three-day journey to Port Bronka 1,300 km away.
Liebherr has, meanwhile, confirmed that production is under way for a second LHM 800 destined for Montecon S.A. Based in Montevideo, Uruguay, the container terminal operator Montecon has ordered a high-rise version of the mobile crane.
