Konecranes has received an order for three rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from transportation supplier CSX Intermodal Terminals in the US. This is Konecranes' first RTG delivery to CSX.
The cranes will be delivered in June 2013. The value of the order is confidential.
"With hundreds of Konecranes RTGs delivered and success stories from other intermodal terminals, we're very pleased to start co-operating with CSX," says Jost Dämmgen, sales manager, port cranes, Konecranes.
The 50 T capacity RTGs, which can stack one-over-three containers high, will be used for stacking and moving containers from rail to truck, and vice versa. They will be equipped with the latest DGPS-assisted technology for container yards. This includes the "autosteering" feature which keeps the crane on a pre-programmed straight driving path, thus improving safety and increasing productivity.
CSX Corporation claims to be one of the leading transportation suppliers in the US, with a network that covers 23 states. The company's rail and intermodal businesses provide rail-based transportation services, including traditional rail service and the transport of intermodal containers and trailers.
