Taiwan’s CMA CGM Kaohsiung Terminal has placed an order for five hybrid Koncranes rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for delivery in mid-2025, down from the seven it had been expected to commission.
Konecranes announced in August 2023 seven new RTGs would be commissioned in Q3 2024 with handover in late 2024.
No explanation was given as to why the order reduced from seven to five.
The Konecranes hybrid RTG utilises a battery for daily operations with a small diesel genset used to charge the battery.
Konecranes explains auto-steering creates virtual rails for the RTG to help the operator keep the crane on a straight drive path while auto-positioning places the spreader over the correct container slot.
The Kaohsiung Terminal is a Marseille-headquartered and French-owned shipping and logistics company.
Konecranes Port Solutions sales director Jerry Fann says the order for the five hybrid RTGs is in line with terminal owner’s CMA CGM use of Konecranes container handling equipment globally.
“This new order will ensure a long and productive future for their container handling operations in Taiwan, and it underlines the strength of our relationship and their confidence in our technology,” Finn adds.
