In 2015, Kalmar completed a similar heightening project at DP World Antwerp Gateway. |
Kalmar has been awarded the contract to heighten three ZPMC ship-to-shore (STS) cranes operated by DP World Antwerp Gateway NV.
The project is scheduled for completion during the second quarter of 2017 and continues Kalmar's long-standing relationship with DP World, a leading global operator of marine and inland terminals.
The Antwerp Gateway terminal is continuing its expansion in anticipation of significant growth in container movements and in response to the ever-increasing size of vessels.
Kalmar will be responsible for the planning, engineering and execution of the heightening as well as commissioning of the project. The three cranes, operational since 2006, will be heightened by seven meters by inserting leg extensions underneath the portal beams and installing bolted flange junctions in the existing welded crane leg construction.
Meanwhile, Yilport Oslo Terminal Investments AS in Norway has signed a long-term service agreement for Kalmar Optimal Care.
Kalmar has assumed full responsibility for all maintenance activities at the terminal including maintenance management, service execution, logistics, spare part warehousing and 24/7 support. The fleet at Yilport Oslo includes eight Kalmar E-One2 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, one Kalmar ship-to-shore (STS) crane, three Konecranes STS cranes, and Kalmar mobile equipment. As part of the agreement, Yilport Oslo leases two Kalmar reachstackers with the K-Motion technology and two reachstackers for empty container handling.
Yilport Oslo Terminal is Norway's largest container port that was officially opened on 21 April 2016.
Kalmar had earlier delivered eight zero-emission semi-automated RTG cranes, which play a significant role in boosting the port's capacity. According to the plans, the container throughput of the terminal will increase from 210,000 to 450,000 TEU annually.
