Cargotec has received an order for four Kalmar E-One2 zero-emission rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from Vietnam's International Transport and Trading Joint Stock Company (ITC Corp) for its new port at Phu Huu Ward, District 9 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The value of the order, which is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2013, is confidential.
The four RTG cranes are part of the first phase, which can handle 2,000 TEU container ships and 36,000 DWT ships.
ITC Corp was established in 2001, specialising in maritime transportation and other fields of multimodal transportation. It has embarked on an investment plan of over USD180 million, which includes the construction of the new Phu Huu Ward port. Construction started in 2010 and comprises an area of 41 ha (101 ac.) with a 900 m (984 yd.) pier. The first phase of the port, featuring a 600 m (656 yd.) long pier, is set for operations in the second quarter of 2013.
The Vietnamese firm was drawn to green attributes of the Kalmar RTGs. The use of the machines will cut energy consumption by over 30% for ITC Corp's new port, leading to lower operational costs.
Cargotec claims the E-One2's maintenance interval of 1,000 hours for the crane and its engine is the longest in the industry and so boosts terminal operational efficiency.
Cargotec provides cargo and load-handling solutions worldwide through its brands Hiab, Kalmar and MacGregor. Cargotec's sales totaled EUR 3.1 billion (USD4.0 billion) in 2011 and it employs approximately 10,500 people.
