We try not to dwell on them, but it's hard to avoid reporting on forklift deaths.
This week's newsletter includes a court verdict after a workplace death in the UK involving a forklift, but it was not the only death in the media headlines, with workplace incidents in several countries last week.
The mainstream media, understandably, tends to focus on the human tragedies, and the business press covers the fines and penalties, but there is limited coverage of the causes or the remedies. In many countries, it is hard to even obtain accurate national statistics.
We would urge safety regulators to share their insights into fatal forklift accidents so that fleet managers, trainers and operators learn something valuable from these tragedies.
