An American editor once said unnamed sources often say more than they know, and journalists quoting them report more than they hear.
There's a case in point this week, as readers who have been following our Discussion Forums would know. A while ago, rumours emerged about something that we are only able to officially report this week: Doosan has acquired UK dealer Rushlift.
Unfortunately, as journalists, we have to abide by certain requirements which are not imposed on forum posters. We can't simply report rumour. We have to verify and corroborate. And that means sticking to the "official" timetable - the schedule worked out by those intimately involved.
So, don't be surprised if our unnamed sources on the forum beat us to the punch again. At least that avenue means that you're getting the best of both worlds - unconfirmed reports AND the official version (when it's released).
