This week's story about a Hyster electric forklift appearing in the British TV series Doctor Who struck something of a chord for me. Only last week, I was on holiday in Britain and went on a behind-the-scenes tour of the National Theatre in London. It was a fascinating glimpse at the impressive technology of modern-day theatre and showed just how much happens backstage. But even in this cultural icon, forklift technology is evident and a shiny yellow forklift took pride of place in the construction department, ready to help move some of the structures which go into the stage sets. Unfortunately, it was parked behind a polystyrene tower, so I couldn't tell what model it was, but judging from the facilities at the theatre, it must have been a good one - maybe good enough for an on-stage appearance one of these days.
