We’re expecting a major manufacturer to shortly confirm that it is halting production of internal combustion engine (ICE) forklifts – in line with automotive moves to exit the petrol/diesel market between 2030 and 2035.

But most manufacturers say they’ll continue making ICE trucks as long as there is demand for them. And it appears that demand will not disappear as fuel-powered trucks are still favoured for many applications. Admittedly, we are seeing electric-powered machines moving into many areas which were the domain of ICE.

Let’s also remember that there are literally millions of ICE trucks out there – and they will be around for decades, requiring parts, support and maintenance.

So, while the future may well be electric, it looks like ICE will be with us for some time to come.
