OOLTEWAH, TENNESSEE, - Continuing with the long heritage of HAWKER^® motive power battery innovation and expertise, the company is excited to introduce its two newest battery products - FLEX^TM battery and FLEXPAK^TM battery/charger combo pack. Suitable for fast and opportunity charge applications and do not require watering, HAWKER^® FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries provide superior flexibility and thrive with opportunity charging.

The new HAWKER^® FLEX^TM battery systems provide a range of motive power batteries (consisting of either 2 volt cells or monoblocs) that offer opportunity charging with no battery changing and practically no maintenance. This provides significant operational benefits at a lower cost of ownership compared to traditional flooded, gel, or air mixed batteries.

HAWKER^® FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries can practically eliminate routine maintenance efforts and may reduce operating expenses. There is no need to water these batteries, and corrosion issues have been eliminated. Shorter recharge times mean quicker battery availability and operators only need to schedule one full charge and equalization per week.

HAWKER^® FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries provide exceptional flexibility for operators. These batteries can be used whenever needed and can be recharged when time allows - during breaks or at the end of the shift. Additionally, the FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries can even be put back into service before they are fully charged. They're the ideal power source to an opportunity charge application and will go from 40-80% State of Charge (SOC) within one hour with the appropriately sized HAWKER^® FLEX^TM charger. All FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries are equipped with Low Voltage Alarms (LVA) to automatically alert the user when their battery should be charged.

FLEXPAK^TM is a battery and charger combined into one tray. This combo Pak includes an IP66 rated high frequency onboard charger that incorporates a charging profile specifically designed for the TPPL batteries. The Pak is designed and intended for light- to medium-duty single- and two-shift operations and should be opportunity charged as often as possible during work hours. For ease of charging, the FLEXPAK^TM chargers are factory installed with a standard 110V AC plug on the end of the tray and employs a LVA.

The key to the HAWKER^® TPPL battery is a design that results in increased plate surface area thus higher energy density within the cell/battery - and that delivers the greatest available power for all FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries.

According to Portney, TPPL technology delivers additional inherent advantages to the FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries. "TPPL technology stands up better to high rate discharging, delivers less resistance, and accepts a charge easier than flooded batteries at a fraction of the cost of lithium," he said. "And, the plates are 99 percent recyclable."

HAWKER^® FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries feature a superior quality microporous glass mat separator with high electrolyte absorption and stability to enhance cycle capability. Positive and negative plates are low impedance, high corrosion-resistant thin plate grids. The FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries offer optimized cycling performance and rapid recharging that conventional lead acid batteries (gel or flooded) simply cannot.

The HAWKER^® FLEX^TM and FLEXPAK^TM batteries are well suited for fast and opportunity charge applications including: Class I, II, and III trucks, industrial utility vehicles, automated guided vehicles (AGV), floor care/cleaning machines, shuttle personnel carriers, and narrow aisle fork trucks.
