What do you do when an 8,000 pound (3.6 tonnes) female in her mid-40s gets stuck in a pond?
That was the dilemma facing the Los Angeles Fire Department when Tara, an elephant at the Los Angeles Zoo, found herself unable to stand up after lying down in a pond on February 7.
The Los Angeles Times said firefighters and handlers spent almost three hours positioning straps around the elephant before lifting her with a tow truck, a crane and a forklift. Tara was unhurt.
