EV Alert started out as a single product 20 years ago for emergency services. It has been developed over the past three years into a range of units that cross multiple industries. There seems to be no end to what EV Alert & EV Fork can do in an industrial situation to assist with safety between forklifts, pedestrians and other fixed & moving plant and equipment.

How does it work?
UHF or VHF sensors are strategically located at critical points around the work site/warehouse/ gateways/rail crossing/pedestrian thoroughfares, even on other vehicles or worn by people. These sensors control alarms, sirens, audible messages and/or light signs. The equipment (forklifts, trucks, ambulances, cranes etc) is fitted with an emitting beacon giving a signal that travels a measured distance to activate the alarms as they approach.

The beauty of the EV system is that unlike other infrared systems, the UHF and VHF signals travel around corners and the signal can be set to distance and both the beacons and receivers can be made to fit on vehicles, people, walls, doorways, road junctions. The original VHF unit has a 500 metre range, which is overkill in a warehouse situation, but perfect for container yards, rail crossings, mining, agriculture, forestry sites and traffic management for emergency vehicles.

The EV fork products have been developed through customer feedback & industry requirements. If there is a way of incorporating a great feature into the product, it is built in at the next production run and made standard. The UHF version of the EV Alert was developed when feedback from customers showed the company that a short-range unit was required for indoor use in high metal areas. "Continuous product improvement has always been my focus" Greg said. "EV Fork is so versatile it can send and receive a warning, activate differing warnings/devices according to zones and activate a speed limiter, any smarter and it would make you coffee".

Earlier this year the company was approached by US and UK companies interested in distributing the EV Alert & EV Fork products on EV Alert's behalf. This prompted the company's Marketing Manager, Donna Blackwood to revise the company's exporting plan. "Our intention was always to concentrate on the domestic market for the next two years prior to expanding overseas; however, we are now developing a plan to distribute to the overseas and domestic markets simultaneously".

EV Alert's impressive client list boasts some of the biggest names in Australian industries including Patrick's, Herald & Weekly Times, Green Triangle Forestry, Swan Brewery, NEC, and Rio Tinto.

Some of the applications have included:
  • Forestry use to warn road traffic when logging trucks are entering from forest tracks;

  • Food warehouses where 70 forklifts frequent multiple warehouse aisles and cross pedestrian thoroughfares;

  • Container parks where reach truck drivers have obstructed vision as they move around the corner of buildings and container stacks.

  • Smelter works where rail tracks exit a warehouse and cross roads and pedestrian work zones.
With an extensive website and a dedicated distribution network, EV Alert can reach across the globe and spread the word on innovative, cost effective safety for pedestrians and equipment.
