Digital communication software specialist Ericsson has unveiled a new Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) on an end-to-end, standalone 5G network as part of a collaboration with China Mobile.

According to a statement, the prototype was recently demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai and proved that a standalone 5G architecture can be adequately used for industry digitalisation.

The AGVs will have a network slicing-based Dedicated Industrial Network technology, which will help create dedicated industrial networks to ensure the security and reliability of production data.

Lu Lu, deputy director of networks and IT, China Mobile Research (CMRI), says: "Edge computing and network slicing are the most important enabling technologies for 5G.

"They also provide important capabilities that operators need to serve vertical industries. Teaming up with Ericsson, we demonstrate the strong potential of edge computing and network slicing for the Industrial Internet, and this is a valuable experiment for industrial applications of 5G."
Genkinger’s solution portfolio continues to grow, evident in the wide range of products they will exhibit at LogiMAT (Hall 10, Stand C31) including a compact reach truck with double operator position and the premiere of a new electric transporter.
