Korean forklift manufacturer Doosan has been awarded a special export award by the Korea International Trade Association following exports of over $200 million.

The award, which comes just a year after the company was re-organised, splitting the business away from Doosan Infracore and into its own forklift division, recognises Doosan's growing presence in overseas markets including Europe, North America and Australia.

Doosan Industrial Vehicle (DIV) now operates in over 100 countries, via 360 regional and local dealers. Despite the challenging market conditions, the company has increased exports, recording overseas sales worth more than $260 million.

"We are very honoured by this recognition," says DIV CEO CW Park. "It is a credit to the hard work of all our partners, dealers and employees around the world. Whilst other manufacturers have struggled, we have continued to make great strides in spite of a global economic downturn and we've also successfully introduced a number of new products which show how we are set for even greater success in future."

The newly launched 7 Series reach truck, redeveloped cabin options and expanded warehousing range have been specifically developed for export, whilst larger capacity engine trucks are solidifying the brand's reputation at home.

Quality products and price competitiveness have also played a part in generating the $260 million figure, an increase of over $50 million in the last financial year, whilst the company also cites the greater focus following the organisational reshuffle as contributing to the export growth.

"The move has given us greater freedom and the ability to react swiftly," concludes CW Park. "It's also given employees greater ownership in their futures, whilst we still maintain the huge advantages of belonging to a world-leading global business."

Hosted by the Ministry for the Knowledge Economy and attended by President Lee MyungPark, the Government-sponsored 49th Annual Trade Day Awards ceremony shines the spotlight on businesses which contribute towards developing South Korea's overseas markets. Kia, Samsung, LG and Hyundai are all notable previous winners of the KITA awards, receiving a Golden Tower commemorative statue.
