New eLearning module for training operators
NES Rentals Holdings Inc of Chicago has developed and tested an eLearning module through which the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) is expanding operator training.

IPAF has conducted successful trials of the eLearning module as part of its established AWPT Inc training program for US operators of aerial work platforms (AWPs). AWPT is the North American subsidiary of the IPAF.

So far, NES Rentals, an IPAF member, has trained most of its 1,040 staff members to the level of the Powered Access License (PAL) card.

"eLearning opens up alternative methods of delivering education and takes the AWPT training program to a new level," says IPAF president Wayne Lawson. "It provides a new way for training centres to reach greater numbers but does not replace practical training. It enriches the learning process and allows us to bring the safe and effective use of AWPs to a wider public."

Tony Groat, AWPT executive vice president, notes: "With our new eLearning module, trainees can complete the theory (traditional classroom) part of the AWPT course online at their own pace at any time of the day or night. They use the same material as in a classroom session and learn the same skills."

In the final part of the trial, NES Rentals is taking bookings from members of the public for the eLearning module during March.

NES Rentals reported 2011 total sales of USD280 million including rental volume of USD250 million, according to Penton Media Inc's Rental Equipment Register magazine. NES Rentals was established in 1996 and was known then as National Equipment Services Inc.

According to its website, NES Rentals operates at 74 locations in 24 states, primarily in the US East, Mid-west and South.

It’s the year 2000. You’re in front of a boxy beige desktop waiting for the screeching ramblings of your dial-up to reach its finale. You go to Yahoo!, MSN, or maybe AOL, and start the mind-numbing process of finding your very specific needle in the digital haystack. And with web pages loading one image at a time, patience isn’t just a virtue – it’s a requirement!

As clumsy as this early iteration seems now, this technology was the great enabler that allowed Forkliftaction to connect to the industry across the globe.

To everyone who has connected with Forkliftaction in the past 25 years, thank you for your contribution to our success! We feel deeply touched by your words of encouragement.
