Devaluation of the Pound Opens New and Strong Export Markets

In a world of political uncertainty and social upheaval, markets are feeling the strain of a much-weakened pound. In the wake of the Brexit vote, the pound plunged by 11 per cent, putting it at its lowest level since 1985. After the recent election, the pound fell further, dropping as low as $1.2636 before stabilising.

That has made the second hand forklift market particularly attractive. The weakened pound makes the UK more affordable to foreign interests, whether that's for tourism or investing in our various exports.

This puts PHL in a very good position to buy and sell used forklifts all over the world. If you are looking for your next used forklift try out our Forklift Finder to see what we have in stock. Foreign buyers need less currency to buy the same quantity of UK goods. Therefore a weaker Pound means UK exporters can sell their goods cheaper or increase their profit margins. The current state of the pound should help British manufacturers and exporters.

The UK's largest single export by value is cars. We sell £37bn cars abroad every year. With a cheaper pound, UK exports of cars from British brands like Jaguar and Land Rover are leading the way in taking advantage of a weakened pound. British exporters are enjoying a Brexit windfall as a result of the Pound's fall, which has helped push up the value of the goods they export by 15 per cent since a year ago.

For PHL, it's a similar situation. By capitalising on exports, we are able to leverage the benefits of a weaker pound. With Brexit-led uncertainties and the implementation of any changes in rules or tariffs so far away, we're in ideal economic conditions. Higher prices and profits lay ahead with very few drawbacks. Visit our website today at www.phl.co.uk if you are interested in taking advantage of the falling pound to buy a new forklift or sell your current lift trucks.
