Simulators ready for a training session |
Wisconsin Lift Truck and Illinois Material Handling have expanded their safety training portfolio to include virtual reality simulators for purchase or rent, to incorporate into customer training curriculums.
The equipment allows forklift operators to experience realistic forklift controls, manoeuvrability and the challenges of moving products and pallets, all in a controlled environment with the use of VR goggles.
With today's limited workforce talent, companies must be ready to bring workers onboard who are new to the industry. To get them up to speed quickly, it's time to consider a new and innovative approach such as virtual reality, according to the dealers. Not only do VR forklift simulators enhance the learning experience of first-time operators, they aid in correcting the bad habits of seasoned operators.
"Our customers find it most important to be able to educate forklift operators while in a hazard-free environment and allow as much practice as needed before getting behind the wheel of the real thing," says Tony Parsons, operator training manager of Wolter Group. "Not only is it a safer solution, virtual reality forklift training is multi-sensory (which serves to) increase retention while minimising the time required to train."
Companies have the flexibility to purchase or rent full simulator units or portable desktop models which provide the necessary tools for an enhanced training experience. Rentals are available per day, week or month, or on a long-term basis.
"We've had customers rent simulators to support company safety events or to enhance continued education and training meetings. We're excited to be able to provide the latest technology and solutions to ensure customers' continued safe materials handling operation," says Kristin Lelewicz, Wolter Group chief marketing officer.
Wisconsin Lift Truck and Illinois Material Handling are the first authorised distributors of Really-Virtual Consulting (RVC).
RVC, based in Yorba Linda, California, offers a number of simulation solutions, including the Real-Forklift which "creates an immersive experience using virtual reality and motion simulation. Real-Forklifts are configurable to replicate most counterbalance forklifts currently on the market."
