The Material Handling Equipment Distributors' Association (MHEDA) will hold its 50th annual convention from April 30 to May 4 in Arizona.

Held at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona, the convention's focus is on "how you can transform your company". Speakers will cover topics ranging from sales to succession planning.

Learn about the latest products at the exhibitors' showcase and share your views at a manufacturer-distributor relationship forum and roundtable discussion.

According to the MHEDA website, the convention is a chance to step away from the daily grind and immerse yourself in new ideas, new partnerships and new perspectives.

On Monday, May 2, MHEDA president David Griffith will talk on the state of the association and celebrate the association's 50 years of serving the industry.

Speaker and bestselling author Dr Kevin Freiberg will present the keynote presentation, titled 'Blow the doors off business as usual'.

There is a spouses program that includes a 'heavenly homes tour' and lunch at the Wrigley Mansion. On 'Carefree Day', spouses spend the day shopping in Carefree, a town north of Phoenix.

I am told there is a new system in Holland where a less intensive system of certification is available for people who only occasionally use a forklift and are not engaged in more stability sensitive operations. My first altruistic thought was no, a full course of instruction of eight to 40 hours should be a minimum for even the most casual operation. After all, the forklift still has dangerous capabilities at any time, right?

Trouble in paradise Fork Talk - 17 Mar 2005 (#200) A major building products manufacturer reports that 57 per cent of all material damage is caused by forklifts. The late model, well-maintained forklifts of this large company are operated by experienced, certified operators. With an increase in the percentage of forklift operators who are trained, the aforementioned situation is occurring more frequently. Why are mature, well-trained people causing so much damage?
