London Gateway doubles cargo lifting ability
Essex, United Kingdom

DP World London Gateway has become the first UK port to lift four containers at one time on its quay cranes, after engineering a system that allows it to double the number of containers it can move safely and quickly.
The spreader can handle four 20 ft. containers or two 40 ft. containers at a time. Engineering director Andrew Bowen says: "By introducing the tandem lift for two 40 ft. containers to our operations, we will be able to improve productivity that will allow vessels to be turned around faster and cargo to move on to its final destination more efficiently."
London Gateway opened on 7 November 2013 and is the UK's first 21st Century major deep-sea container port and Europe's largest logistics park.
