Hybrid available in the UK soon
Kenilworth, United KingdomCooper SH says it will offer the world's first hybrid reach stacker, developed by Konecranes.
The SMV 4531 TB5 HLT with a 45 T lifting capacity features a "hybrid diesel/electric driveline, an electrified hydraulic lifting system, and a super capacitor-based energy storage". These are claimed to significantly cut fuel consumption and emissions.
Tony Rooney, Cooper SH director, says: "This project has been ongoing for around two years and we are delighted that it has now entered its field-test mode."
The new reach stacker will continue being field-tested at the Port of Helsingborg's container terminal

Kalmar secures large order
Helsinki, FinlandKalmar has signed a contract to deliver 12 all-electric, rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) to Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) SA in Greece.
The cranes, scheduled for delivery in late 2013, will facilitate the port's continued expansion, with annual capacities planned to increase from 2.6 million TEUs to 3.1 million TEUs.
PCT, operating in Greece since 2009, is a wholly owned subsidiary of COSCO Pacific Limited. The value of the order is confidential.
