ALVIN, TEXAS: A major manufacturer in the oil and gas tooling industry had a roll-off accident involving a machined cylindrical length of exotic metal, endangering people and costing tens of thousands of dollars to repair. Their Forklift's work involved ground level handling of rounds and palletized loads as well as handling rounds in cantilever racking having very limited overhead space. They came to Fork-Co USA for a pipe clamp to secure their stock.

Traditional, or 'legacy' design clamps would not do both jobs. These types of clamps utilize swinging, or arcing, motions of the clamp arm that would impact the overhead stock levels in the racks. Something completely different was needed. Fork-Co's experience and strong history in pipe and round stock handling went into top gear. A new solution was born.

The challenge resulted in the new-concept Parallel Pipe Clamp, Model WPH-PPC, (Patent Pending). This unique attachment operates clamping arms that move parallel to the fork blades rather than swinging in an arc when clamping. Because the arm base remains stationary while clamping, it allows work in tight overhead space. The design permits rounds to be secured at any point along the fork blade without pushing the stock across the fork, a common problem with traditional pipe clamps.

The PPC permits very controlled pick and place of stock located at the tips of the forks. And, two or more rounds can be clamped equally to the forks since the clamp force is applied vertically, not on an angle. This feature also makes possible handling rectangular beams of steel or even engineered wood products without corner damage caused by legacy-design clamps.

Since the clamping arms move up and down independently, stock with varying diameters over their lengths are positively secured as well.

An available option is padded protection for coated, painted or exotic materials.

For regular cargo handling, the PPC's arms raise to the vertical.

With only a single hydraulic function required, the PPC performs a host of tasks very well, indeed.
