The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) is battening down the hatches ahead of what’s predicted to be an “extremely active” Atlantic hurricane season this year.

“Hurricane season is often ALAN’s busiest time of year for disaster activations and experts are predicting that 2024 will bring an unusually high volume of storm activity,” says ALAN executive director Kathy Fulton.

“As weather patterns grow more volatile, ALAN’s services continue to be more important than ever – and we’re actively preparing both our resources and our partner networks to respond as needed.”

In 2023, ALAN supported 3.1 million disaster survivors as it responded to 15 disaster events and four recovery efforts.

During the year, the non-profit organisation assisted with the storage, delivery and distribution of more than USD2.1 million of humanitarian aid, including food, hydration, medical supplies and other critical necessities.

“Materials handling equipment plays a critical role in disaster response and recovery, acting as a force multiplier for the sorting and distribution of humanitarian aid,” Fulton says.

“Ahead of hurricane season we are looking for businesses to help ALAN equip our non-profit partners with the resources they need to respond to disasters as efficiently and effectively as possible.”

With hurricane season set to begin on June 1, ALAN is calling for financial and in-kind commitments, which can be made through its website.
