The advanced technologies business segment of Oceaneering International Inc has acquired Frog AGV Systems BV, a developer of automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems and navigational hardware and software.

Frog has about 70 employees, has provided materials handling systems for food, beverage, automotive, electronics, warehousing and other applications, and gains substantial additional backing through access to Oceaneering's major resources.

Frog has deployed more than 1,200 AGV systems over three decades. The systems use patented navigation technology with sophisticated software and sensors to provide accurate guidance. Frog's AGVs autonomously navigate through complex pathways to complete various missions.

Formed in 1984, Frog is based in Utrecht, has United States locations in Macomb Township, Michigan and Cleveland, Ohio (working with Cleveland Clinic) and other offices in Eislingen, Germany and Montreal, Canada (working with Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal).

Recently, Frog partnered with the Oceaneering entertainment systems unit in developing Tru-Trackless passenger ride vehicles for the theme park industry.

Oceaneering reported profit of USD289 million on 2012 sales of USD2.78 billion. Primarily, the publicly traded Houston, Texas-based firm provides engineered services and products-including submersible remotely operated vehicles-to the offshore oil and gas industry with a focus on deep-water applications.

Jaap van der Werff continues with Oceaneering in an executive position overseeing the AGV business. He was chief executive officer of Frog AGV Systems BV.
