Discussion:
U.K. and Australian industrial / material handling suppliers?

Hello,

I am new to ForkLiftAction and could use some advice about finding a distributor for my new patented product. I am in Detroit, U.S.A. and need help finding distributors in Australia and the U.K/Europe.

The product is material handling related but could be distributed by an industrial supply warehouse.

I would like to use one or two companies to distribute in Europe and Australia.

Does anyone have suggestions to who may fit my needs?

Thank you for any help you have to offer,
Tom

I am an independent attachment consultant with 21 years in the industry and I am always interested in new products. However I have concerns, as collegues above, that does this not encourage bad practice and trucks will need to be rated for the increased load centres. I am also concerned if used on fork attachments - Double Pallet Handlers, Fork Clamps, Positioners etc??

I doubt that "Fork Grps" would be certified by the concerned government agencies in many markets since it allow the forklift driver to lift a load on the forks tips and thereby extending the loadcenter (from std 500/600 mm).
I would guess that the forklift would require a new capacity plate and instructions how to use it safely.
To lift load on fork tips is a normal, but not approved or safe, practice.

I have seen these grips. The only problem I see is that they would have to be approved by WHS authorities before they can be used as they are an attachment. At the moment , in Queensland, Australia, according to the Qld Government Department of Employment and Industrial Relations, it is a "Prohibited Practice" to use a forklift as a towing or pushing device, unless appropriate attachments are fitted.

Thank you everyone for all of the replies. I appreciate all of your thought and time.

My product is grips that quickly attach to the ends of the forks. They solve the common problem of forks being too short and too slippery to unload cargo that is barely within reach. They allow cargo to be dragged closer to the edge of the truck by using just the tips of the forks without the cargo slipping off. With the cargo closer, the forklift is now able to reach safely under the load to easily remove it from the truck.

These grips reduce the need for someone to climb onto the truck to help the cargo off the truck. This will lower the number of injuries caused by falls from the truck, and also reduce muscle and back strains from pushing or pulling the cargo to help the forklift driver.

These grips also make unloading trucks quicker and easier because there is no need to get chain, or pallet jacks for loads that are just within reach of the forks. Simply slip the grips onto the tips of the forks, the forks will now grip the underside of the cargo and it can be dragged closer to the edge so it can be easily removed.

I don't think I am allowed to give the name of the product on this forum. I don't know if I am allowed to give links that show the product in use either. However, there is video of these fork grips available at many of the popular video sharing web sites. A quick search at those sites should allow you to see them in action.

I have used them for quite a while to help unload trucks since we don't have a dock. I just recently decided to patent the idea and start selling them.

I am having some success finding distributors in the U.S.A. but I want to develop markets in other countries.

Dear Mr Monroe,

It would be helpful if you could give some details of your product, like what it can do, any unique selling points, etc, as that would help in zeroing in on the most suitable distributor, as far as the UK/Europe are concerned. I could also help in obtaining publicity in the UK trade press.
