I was in for a surprise when I checked my emails this afternoon; I had a reply from Sir Neville Bowman-Shaw (SamUK Lift Trucks Ltd) identifying the larger forklift as a Boss D42; capacity of 4200 (kg I assume) @ 1200mm load centre with perhaps a 4.0m duplex mast. Engine is likely to be a Leyland 680 diesel and a British Twin Disc transmission.

There was a G series of this forklift, with a 4m width designed to handle containers 20-40ft in length with the lift height to stack up to 4 containers on top of one another.

Thank you for all the help on this, I believe I have only one Boss brochure kicking around somewhere and its certainly not for a machine of this size!

The V180 to V300 models originally came with 3145's and the later versions came with the 3208's. They, along with the V120 to V150's all came with the same type of hood arrangement where they would lift up with the pulling up of the release handle and then pivot backwards over the counterweight and sit horizontally. Hard to explain how the hood worked but they all worked the same and the baby V's had the smaller hood assembly.
Seems to me the smaller V's mostly came with the Perkins 4.236 and some were available with a Ford inline gas 6 cylinder though they were rare.

The V120-150's came with Borg Warner powershift transmissions though some came with a manual trans and the V180-300's had the Funks. All of us at the shop became pretty proficient at pulling the Funks out......................

ive never seen a perkins in a frame like that
ive seen them in smaller large frame cats
maybe it is a UK spec
when ever i see that bonnet here i know its a 3208 under it (thirty two oh great) lol

hey gavin why dont you go to that yard and ask them what it is and see if you can take a pic under the bonnet lol

i tend to disagree with you justin. most of them i,ve seen have a perky 4 cyl under there. bonnet swings up and back over the counterweight.somebody else could put me right on uk spec truck.

i still say that CAT is a v150 with a 3208 (V8) by the hood design

The Cat is probably a V150 with a Perkins diesel, at least that's what they came with here in Canada. They were pretty good units except for the Perrot (sp?) brakes. The adjusters were so fine that when the brake drums heated up, the shoes would self adjust to match and when the drums cooled down, they were seized on tight.

I sent an email to the head office at Toddington. Strangely enough, no matter where you send an email to, the address is the same?

hello justin you say 5000lbs truck we say 2.5 tonner. metric has stuck well with some things over here. the cat is a 7 ton truck uk spec. the lancer boss looks to be a 12-14 ton machine. the guy to ask would be big boss of SAMUK UK. mr bowman-shaw used to own lancer-boss i think, before it lost the lancer name then it evolved into BOSS.

I've emailed the "parent company" of Lancer Boss with the two photobucket links to my pictures (got a slightly better side view of it) in the hope they get back to me with a possible match. Its worked before with Volvo!

Just had a look on machinery trader, the Boss machines in the 36000Lb range look considerably larger with raised cabs (I'm guessing hydraulically controlled?) for visibility over containers being handled. Very impressive!

I went back to the same place this morning but could not see the forklift anywhere so unfortauntely couldn't get any pics let alone better ones.

The Lancer Boss truck sure looks one big machine indeed though, 15,000Lb isn't exactly a small truck either!

that looks more like a cat v150d (15000 lb cap)
unless cat re-rates their trucks in metric over there
then were about agreeing lol
ive worked on ones like that one and bigger ones (V300x with negative drop masts at boat yards)

the clue is the hood they usually use that frame and hood to cover a 3208
i dont think youd get a CAT 3208 in a 7000 lb truck lol

nonetheless it is a good truck
the only problem with that motor is some of them like to suckair into the fuel and it dies (intermittent throttle shaft bushing issue)
but i could get an airbound 3208 up and running in 10 minutes

in the UK do they rate trucks in stone? lol jk
