Just be very careful of going in any of the service menus with the can service key!
At least read the manual first to find out exactly what each service function will do to the truck BEFORE you select it!
The RRE has many built in helpful service function's to aid the technican looking after it.
Also read the section on the hydraulic quick connectors & how to depressurise the hydraulic system via the service menu.
Refit the quick connector red security clip in the wrong sequence will result in the hose then blowing out the fitting when it's pressurised up!
It would appear that I have a lot to learn, and yes , a good start would be the latest service manual !!
I can't thank you enough for the help you've given me already !!
Ask your BT / Toyota dealer for a copy of the latest RRE manual, the one you have is very out of date.
Some of the thing's in your manual wont match what's actually on your machine's, some of the mechanical assembles & also wiring has changed - also the calibration procedure will be different.
There are 2 lateral play adjustors on each side of the reach carriage, these are each hidden behind a screw in cap that has a grease nipple in, the tool allows you to unscrew the cap so you can get at the adjustor.
The lateral adjustors are used to keep the reach carriage running square in the chassis legs.
Ok 2:004 just "popped up " after machine was in service for like 2 weeks, tech copied CID to MCU configuration, been good ever since ?
The service manual I was sold with the 3 machines is dated ( on the front cover ) 2009-12-22 ?? even though the date of manufacture of the units is Jan. 17/2014 ??
I lists the CanKey P/N as 156263... which is the one I have.
We can only "view" parameters with this CanKey... not adjust/change them.... so at the very least I will need the CanKey that you gave me the P/N for 7516708.
Thanks for the info !!! Much appreciated!!
Oh Yeah.... "the little service tool for adjusting the reach carriage " ?? What exactly does this little tool do, I'm wondering ?
Thanks again !!
Only time's I've seen 2:004 is either when setting's / calibration is being adjusted & sometime's the truck has a sulk on restart OR after a software download has been carried out when the configuration need's copying between MCU & CID.
CAN key is part number 7516708.
Parameter 342 is lowering speed & is changeable with the CAN service key, it's only the factory parameter's from 1001 onward's that need Truck Com.
Some driver & operator parameter's need the truck switched OFF to change while other's can be changed with the truck ON.
Some operator's find the default RRE steering setting a bit lively after being use to an older generation Reflex, I find 772 for the RRE steering a nice setting.
Ok.... I hear you on how bad a unfamiliar guy can screw these things up. We already in just 2 weeks had a Code 2:004 ( error between CID & MCU ) and had the service guy come out and correct. It's warranty but because of our location , it's $400 dollars CAD, everytime he shows up " travel time " !
The service guy and I plugged my old Can Key in to the new machine and it would not let me change fork lowering speed.... just view it ?? The new parts book has the same P/N for the CanKey as the one on my CanKey ? But we had to use TruckCom and lap-top to actually change the lowering speed parameter?
Which gets me back to thinking that sooner than later I'm gonna have to acquire this TruckCom.
Yes, these units are non-tilting cabs, our old ones were tilters but we found the operators didn't use it... it's a expensive option. And yes coldstore and full cab.
There are not many of these units in all of Canada, and very few sold out of this dealer.... so I tend to know more about the units than they do, not bragging... just the way it is. We can't afford to pay travel time , so I gotta figure them out.
I did OK for 9 years with the old models but these new ones seem WAY more complex ??
Thanks for your help !!
Is TruckCom a proprietary BT thing ??
The only time you need Truck Com for an RRE is if you are replacing electronic control unit's or needing to change factory parameter's - those kind of job's I would leave for a BT / Toyota technician as it's very easy to wipe the unit's software / calibration if things are not done in the correct sequence!
BT / Toyota dealer should offer to set the trucks up for you during / just after delivery.
Everything else on the RRE is done via a BT can service key.
Ask your BT / Toyota dealer nicely if there is any chance of some training / going on there next RRE course.
NOTE: A BT can service key + RRE + someone not familiar with what all the hidden service menus do that the can key unlocks can really screw the machine settings up!
You will also want / need the little service tool for adjusting the reach carriage - ill find the part number tomorrow.
I take it these are NON tilting RRE's, just one's with coldstore spec & full cab?
