Clark C500 SERIES:
C500 Y80 Engine

How do I find out what engine is in there?

Model is C500 Y80.. It looks like a continental, but what engine model?

I was told the year was 1975, serial is Y685-58-1213

And, where is a good place online to order a head gasket?

Thanks.

Ok, I got the head off.

Draining the coolant was weird, nothing came out of the block drain, even pulling it right out. I could see into the block and it was dry, but the head and the upper part of the block was full. Plugged somewhere maybe?

The other thing I noticed was a crack between the cylinders at a couple of the bolt holes. I remember reading somewhere that this is common.

How catasrophic is this?

Thanks for the info!

Any ideas where I might find the engine model number tag? I can't seem to locate it.
Or, is there some way to look up the model by engine serial?

Thanks.

Looks Like it is a C500 Y 60. 1975 June model.

I am unable to find a model, but the SN on the engine should be 31844 (or at least it left the factory with that SN).

I have checked and the cylinder head gasket is available through Clark Organisation.

Clark made use of the Continental L-Head engines, Fourcylinders models N56, NI62, Y69, Y91,Y112, F124, F135, F140, F162 and F163.
Six cylinder models F186, F209,F226, F227, F244, F245, M271, M290, M330, M363, B371, B427.
Normally an engine name plate is attached to the cylinder block, that would help identify model and serial number (wich could be helpful with ordering parts).
I have no expierence with ordering online parts, googled for continental flathead engine parts and get a lot of hits like continentalengineparts dot net. Should be a oiece of cake :)
