Discussion:
Crown 20MT quickly loses oomph

I have this older 20MT with new batts from the dealer and 2 bank 12V smart charger. after a full charge I can only work for 15 or 20 minutes continuously before the truck start to really loses power. Lifting slows way down, third gear will not engage and even 1st and 2nd are a slow grind. During this 15-20 minutes I will, for example, unstack and restack about ten 300 pound boxes. Battery voltages are still around 6.25V even though the indicator is sinking down to half scale. I would think this truck, with new batts, would work longer than that before degrading performance.

Any thoughts/advice? Could the relays or motors be worn and developing resistance.

What is your battery voltage dropping to during lifting, and travel?
I would inspect armature and brushes. If the armature is black/burnt and grooved, id recommend cleaning it via stoning, then replacing brushes.

It is hard to say if it was the same as the previous onwer had 6V starting batteries in the truck (bew batteries are deep cycle) and the old Crown charger was not up to snuff. The new batteries are 6-7 months old. The truck does light duty three days of the week with two days a bit more strenuous. Lifting doesn't seem to degrade as much as driving. What strange to me is that when the truck has slowed to a crawl the 24V relay will still click when the hand control is rolled to full throttle vut the motor will not shift. Also at that point the batteries are still showing 6.25V.

Is there a test for the drive/lift motors to see if they are failing?

Did you have the same issue of it dying quickly before you changed the batteries? And exactly how new are they. I'm leaning toward batteries being the issue, or possibly a drive or lift motor failing and causing higher discharge than normal.

Sounds like the batteries are not in the best condition, or they are not receiving a full charge. What is the make/model of batteries and charger?

Fact of the week
Bluetooth is named after the 10th-century Viking king, Harald Bluetooth, who united warring tribes in Denmark and Norway. In 1997, Jim Kardach from Intel gave the name to the technology because of its ability to unite different communication protocols, just as Harald united various tribes.
