Hyster 80 Fortis, propane 4.3L intermittent no start

Hi all,

New to your forum, but not to heavy equipment. Currently working on a 10 year old 80 Fortis, with gm 4.3l v6. Machine cranks but rarely starts and runs. I have 40 psi of propane past the first regulator, and 0 psi past the new electronic pressure regulator.

Some days it will start first thing in the morning, and run well all day, shutting it off and restarting many times. Other days, you can crank it until you kill the battery and jump pack hooked to it. It never loses spark. Any ideas?

Justin_C where is the drain port on the epr located?

Here's an update for you. It would not start this morning, and I tried something. I turned the tank valve off, cracked the liquid line at the primary regulator, let some out. Then it cranked for 10 seconds and fired up. Turned the tank valve back on, and it stayed running for a few minutes. Started to idle rough, then stalled. It cranked for another 10 seconds and restarted.

This thing has had a rough start since we owned it, slowly getting the bugs worked out.

They are saved. You do need to do something with the regulator. I am surprised it runs at all with 40 PSI coming out to the EPR.

It has thrown codes in the past. Wrote them down, but can't find the paper now. Are they saved in the dash, or are they only present when there is an issue?

Are there codes coming up on the display? Primary pressure should be 2-4 PSI.

H004V02418L. The regulator with 40 psi out is pretty consistent with that number. It would be the first regulator with coolant running through it.

40 psi out of the regulator is too high. What is the serial number?

The epr was replaced with a new one. The lift has about 5000 hours on it. Should I try pulling the mixer, or the initial regulator apart?

Have you tried draining the plug on the EPR to see how much tar comes out of the plug?....how many hours does the lift have on it?
