On the other side of the trans is a cap/cover and under that is the nut to remove the pinion shaft. You will have to remove trans to access it because it in the bell housing area. Slide a dowel in there as you remove the shaft to hold the 2 gears in the trans that are mounted on that shaft.

good morning after 2 days beating and banging got the mast and differential housing off. All bearings in the differential gone looks like water got into the case. bearing on differential input shaft is gone how do you remove this shaft from transmission. Is there any retaining clips nuts etc? do I have to remove transmission and disassemble? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think there are any clips. The axles almost touch each other in the center of differential with just a washer between them. Did you pull both axles and inspect the splines and check for a broken axle? Spines in the axle caps ok? Can you hear or feel the ring gear spinning. Maybe remove the oil level plug on the front of the case and look at the ring gear to see if it spins. If the ring gear is spinning with it running and forward or reverse selected, and the axles and caps look ok then the spider must be broken. Remove mast assemble and then the differential case. The ring gear and spiders can be accessed then.

I believe this truck has mechanical linkage. Check the linkage. If the linkage is working properly you need to run pressure checks, the problem would then be internal.
