Toyota 5FGC20:
Transmission in nuetral and truck moves in reverse?????

This 5fgc20 has the asian sieke powershift transmission, it drives forward and reverse fine but when you put it in nuetral and rev the engine it starts to move in reverse slightly almost like it is partially in reverse. I made adjustments to the directional lever with no results. I changed the trans oil and filter, the oil did not appear burnt or discolored. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

After replacing the clutch packs the problem cleared up and it appeared that there was some overheating there. Thanks for all the advice guys, it was all essential to correct the problem.

Clutch packs will weld, once that happens you will only have one direction of travel. You can check presures but your looking at rebuilding the transmission. The cause could be in the control inching side or just improper inching adjustment or operation.

The clutch disc in the reverse clutch pack have probably been overheated and are distorted taking up all the required clearance for lubrication. I really don't think your problem is in the control valve.

Let us know what you find when you disassemble the transmission

Good Luck!

Take time to do the job right the first time, or you will have to make time to do the job over
I agree, that will be a good starting point and I feel that it's in the valve and that there is some oil bypassing causing this problem. Thanks for your help and posts.

Where the inching valve is doing its job I would assume that the problem is with the control valve. Good luck.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking, When the truck is in nuetral and it begins to travel in reverse, I can engage the inching pedal and at that time it disengages the trans like it was in gear. Now with that said it does not take off fast in reverse when in nuetral its very suttle, it will move a little then stop, then when you rev the motor again it moves a little more. It appears that the oil is bypassing a little causing the reverse effect. I will take the top cover off to ensure there is no bypassing or clogged ports. Thanks for your post Roger. Brad

It sounds like ther may be someting clogging up the ports. What does the truck do when using the inching system and reving the engine? It is strange that the oil was fine. I would remove the control cover and check it out.
