Toyota 42-2FG20:
Transmission issues

Hi there, I'm Jim from northern England
My trusty forklift has started playing up by slowing to a halt after about 10 or 15 minutes use. It works normally at first, slows to a stop regardless of revs and then will not move forwards or backwards even though it engages into gear. All hydraulics working as they should. transmission fluid changed relatively recently and forklift has a very easy life. Any help would be much appreciated. Its a propane fuelled conversion from gasoline.
Thanks

Typically the machine worked as it should today and I just could not get it to slow up. It has been very cold and icey here today so I do not if that will have affected anything. Will try again tomorrow

Ok thats a good point, didnt think of the pedal, thought it could've been the drums so had wheels off, half shafts off, cleaned brakes and refit...still the same. So will try your suggestion

First check if it is the brakes, block the drive wheels up, drive in forward and reverse for the prescribed 10 or 15 minutes, make sure you are engageing the brakes frequently, when the wheels show signs of slowing or stopping. put in neutral and turn the wheels by hand ,if they are locked up check and see if you have proper "free pedal" (the clearance between the actuator rod and the master cylinder piston)you should be able to wiggle the rod slightly. you may need to shorten the stroke to ensure proper clearance so the brakes fully release when the pedal is in the home (non applied) position
