Discussion:
Engine removal

Hello forum. I just bought a used 87 hyster h50xm with a mazda 2.0 LPG engine. It has a few problems that needs fixing and I found this site to be very helpful as I browsed through the forum. I already found the answers to some of my problems in this site and would like to ask some advice from the experts here. I plan on removing and rebuilding the engine ( I also need to replace the ring gear )but, need to know how the engine separates from the trans. Do I have to unbolt anything in the bell housing or does the engine just slide off a splined shaft. Thanks.

Hello again. Been working a lot lately and have been working on the engine when I had time. It wasn't too bad to remove the engine and I have it installed but am waiting for some parts that I ordered from our local Hyster dealer. I will post some more details after replacing the remaining parts and fire it up. Thanks again to the people who replied to this post.

I agree with Mr Fixit, and when I do that job, I pull the cross-member plate (all 3 pieces, under the motor) and the radiator. I also make sure to use thread locking compound and torque new bolts that hold the flex plate to the torque converter.

You have to reach in and unbolt the torque converter drive plate from the flywheel either through the top of the bell housing, if there is a cover plate there, or through the hole the starter mounts in.

Hello people. No reply? Got the head off and sent it out to the machine shop to be rebuilt. I was hoping to start on getting the engine out so I can change the ring gear on the flywheel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
