Discussion:
Auto Level Problem on 8FGU25

I recently purchased a low hour(3k) 8FGU25. Looks and runs flawlessly except for one thing...

The Auto Leveling feature does not work. The rubber boot for the auto level button is not present, but the electrical button although exposed is still there and seems functional, however this is merely speculation as I have not electrically tested it yet.

I removed the kick panel and could not find any bad connections/quick connect plugs.

I checked all the fuses and made sure they are good and in their appropriate locations. However, it did seem like it might be missing a relay in the location that is marked as a optional relay. *edit* marked "C/OPN"

Is the auto leveling feature on a circuit with it's own relay or shared by another?
Is there anywhere else on the forklift that I should be looking to diagnose the failure?

Congrats on the low-hour machine! If the auto-level button is exposed, that's the first thing I'd test/replace. They're cheap and fail often, especially once the boot is gone. If that checks out, follow the wiring back for loose connections. The last step would be looking at the tilt sensor/calibration. I'd start with the button, though-it's usually the culprit.

I have a Toyota 8FGU25 with the same problem. The fork self leveling function is not working. Can someone help me out. I inspect fuses and wiring and everything is ok.

Thank you stam,

What you said worked. I had a feeling it was operator(me) error. I installed a new rubber switch cover today so it's working well now.
Next fix will be to find and install the cup holder which was missing when I bought it.

Thanks to all who helped.

I'm pushing the button on the tilt lever. I've also tried holding it for more than a couple seconds.

Ok, I located the tilt sensor on connected to the right tilt cylinder. Linkage and wiring is intact. I will order a new auto level button anyway and update after it is installed. Thanks mrfixit for your help.

I couldn't find an arm that senses tilt angle, but there is a silver cast aluminum box(4"x4") bolted to the right hand side of the mast. It appears to in an undamaged state. Is this what senses the tilt angle?

mrfixit, Thanks for the input.

I will check the arm tomorrow. I didn't even think to check for any sensors. I picked up the forklift yesterday, still excited and I'm still figuring out where all the bells and whistles are :)

How about the arm that is attached to the tilt cylinder that senses the tilt angle?
