Hi as another option as propane is very costly here this truck has a
fueltank on side can this run on petrol as well or would I need to fit a gasolene carbrettor and fuel pump from a datsun car ?

on some lifts it is common for them to condensate in the exhaust system and there will be some moisture that comes out of the exhaust. As long as its not steaming or smells like coolant then there shouldn't be any problem with that little bit of condensation from the muffler.

As for the mixer? yes over time they will gum up and you can remove the mixer cap/diaphram assy and clean it with carb cleaner, clean out the gum in the throat of the body also. When you restart the engine it may be hard to start but once you start it hold the throttle wide open (at governed speed) till it clears up.

NOTE: if this unit has an O2 sensor on it go light with the cleaner, if you use too much it can foul up the sensor and you'll be replacing that as well.

As far as adjusting it, if there is a screw on the side of the mixer that is usually the air/fuel mixture screw. If you dont see one then it probably is ECU controlled.

Hi just a follow up I have run for a while since reconnecting vacuum and changing plugs etc. Only other thing to note is it spits out of exhaust like its raining but there is no overheating issues. Can anyone tell me where the mixture screw is as I suspect it is running to rich?

Hi thanks again the smell is definately out of exhaust does the mixer just get gummed and need a strip and clean.and also
is it normal to adjust the mixture only thing to add. is that this forklift was parked up for 3 months prior to my taking it on but started up fine when first purchased.

the mixer is where the carbuetor normally is on a gasoline powered engine. It is basically just a air/fuel chamber mounted on top of the intake, it contains a metering valve and diaphragm to distribute lp gas into the engine at the correct mixture.
That 'large unit' mounted to the frame is the evaporator/regulator.
If you are getting this smell does it smell like raw LP gas? It could be the regulator leaking. Usually if it is leaking you can smell the odor strongest around it. Of course the best way to locate a leak is to use a gas sniffer analyzer. :o)

Thanks for the reply I have run today and it does idle better , I have changed distributer cap rotar leads and plugs ,it still seems to smell a bit when running , where is this mixer located and what does it look like? there is a large unit that the vacumn from distributor leads to this is attatched to the body of forklift. looks a bit like a gasoline car fuel regulator does that sound like a mixer?

well a loose vacum line could definatly cause the engine to not run correctly and could make it run rich creating that smell you seem to be having.

reconnect the vacum line and see if that fixes it?
if not then you have other issues that need to be addressed.
try cleaning the mixer
check the air/fuel mixture and adjust as needed
a tune up?
just a couple things to check first :o)
