Also before a tear down of the complex controller, i would perform a self check and remove battery from unit and use pigtail and isolate battery to see if code goes away.

Drive FET shorted you will need to check drive FET boards there is one for each motor if it is a Hitachi. Check for shorts to frame especially motor cables for corrosion before you tear into the controller.
