my guess is this truck has an "SBX" type of battery connector, and your older battery has the SB connector.
The SBX connector in the truck is designed to have a connection that is a closed circuit between the small middle connectors that disconnects -before- the larger power cables loose connection. this is to prevent damaging power spikes when the larger power cables are disconnected or connected. At least that is how I see most of them used these days.
putting a jumper wire in the wire circuit for the middle connection may help get the truck running or for testing, but there is a VERY good reason for having that middle connection, and disabling it will eventually cause damage to the [high dollar] controller, that would otherwise never happen.
if this is the case, you will need to get a jumper set of connections to allow the SB connector on the battery connect to another SB connector, and have a properly wired SBX connector to connect to the truck, that will be the jumper that provides the completed circuit through the small SBX connection.
