Discussion:
OEM discontinue parts on machines less than 5 years old

Has an OEM got a legal obligation to supply parts for its equipment for a set amount of time. 5 years, 10 years or 15 years?

Would expect somebody like Toyota to keep parts available.

I bet the Chinese have no rules to cover parts availability for any number of years. ( with the possible exception of Heli )

I have known BT Toyota get a manufacturer of an electronic unit to agree to make them to special order only status with a 21 day lead time.

The model of truck in question had been out of production for 15 years before the manufacturer & BT decided to discontinue making the part, the change of heart came because a very large important customer was still running the trucks at the time.

I think it is a Reasonable Extectation rather than a Legal Obligation

I doubt if all the legal durastictions would be able to agree things like that anyway.

Maybe in the UK you have something, but I doubt it.

If the company were any good it would be 10 years at least, that is if they have any interest in Customer Service.

According to my knowledge it's 10 years after withdrawing the model from the production.
But the praxis is, that for the quality products, the parts are produced much longer.
