The Port of Umm Qasr’s Iraq Container Terminal (ICT), owned by UAE-based supply chain solutions provider Gulftainer, has taken delivery of three Kalmar reachstackers as part of its strategy to “significantly expand” operational capacity at the terminal.

The reachstackers are fitted with adjustable spreaders to handle different sized containers, and they are powered by hydraulic systems for controlled lifting and stacking. They also feature a rotating cabin with 360-degree movement.

The southern Iraqi terminal operators say the introduction of “these advanced container handling machines” has helped it to achieve an efficiency upgrade.

Gulftainer states: “The introduction of these advanced container handling machines comes as part of Gulftainer’s ongoing commitment to improving terminal efficiency in response to rising cargo volumes by reducing turnaround times for containers, optimising terminal space through high stacking capabilities, and ensuring reliable, timely delivery of goods. This strategic investment underscores the company’s dedication to providing the highest standards of service to its customers across the region.”

Gulftainer’s managing director of Iraq operations, Nic Gray, adds: “The continued investment in our facilities highlights Gulftainer’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s expanding trade sector”.

“These new reachstackers will further strengthen ICT’s ability to provide efficient and reliable service,” Gray continues. “Our customer service remains unparalleled in the region, which is clearly reflected in the terminal’s strong year-on-year performance.”
