My warehouseman wants to go to white non marking tires. I'm hearing horror stories about catching on fire, causing electrical shock from the build up of static electricity, and how they have to have special grounding.... any thoughts on this? Aren't they also rubber just like the black solid rubber?

Agree with Kevin T. but will add that non marking tires are a softer compound than black tires (i. e. lower durometer rating) and will wear out a bit faster. This is why the static build up occurs. A static strap (flat braided wire) is preferred less chance of hanging up vs a chain and less noise.
Non marking tires are a widely used in all sorts of industry and have been around since Hector was a pup. The only complaint I ever heard about them is when the lift is not fitted with a static strap & the operator gets a good jolt, especially in the winter time.
This static build up can be eliminated with a static strap or chain that is attached to the truck and touches the floor. IS nothing special needed just a length of hardware store dog chain to drag on the ground and attached to the truck. nothing else is needed. Have customers with these and no problems.
Non-marking tires just for the floor cleaning (floors color ~ tires color: white/green...)
As you said, to avoid above causes, you should go on electicially conductive tires
